Living within thirty minutes of the Santa Barbara Zoo is probably one of my favorite aspects about living here in Ventura. I feel as though we have so much at our fingertips that it makes for an exciting day to get out and experience something fun. This week my husband had Friday off (he has every other Friday off from work), but typically those Fridays are consumed by appointments and errands – things we can get a jump start on. So, when Saturday came around, and we realized we didn’t have anything planned, we decided to jump in the car and take Greyson to the zoo!
We had been making plans to visit the zoo again, but as life would have it various things got in the way or the weather wasn’t cooperating. Luckily though, we were able to make it and turn it into a fun family day – just the three of us.
The last time we took Greyson to the zoo he was only 10 months old and although I knew he enjoyed seeing the different animals, he wasn’t quite aware enough to really take it all in. Now, at almost 17 months, he’s not only running around, but he’s so engaged with each of the exhibits and quite curious about the animals inside. Going to the zoo this time around was even more special because of those moments where his eyes lit up at the sight of a lion or hear the squawk of some giant bird in the aviary. I also loved capturing a few of these moments – precious times indeed – so, here are a few snapshots from our day at the zoo!

Most of our day was spent chasing Greyson all around the park. He loved being free to run around and every so often did Daddy scoop him up to show him something cool. He seemed to really enjoy the birds, even though he was scared of them the first time, and larger animals like the lions and giraffes. Greyson has such a curiosity and it’s such a joy to watch him be excited about absolutely everything. I only pray he keeps this sense of excitement as he grows up.
Afterwards we drove up a few blocks to downtown Santa Barbara to do some wine tasting. Because, you know, Grey had his fun and now it’s time for Mommy and Daddy to unwind, haha. 😉 It was such a lovely day spent as a little family and I treasure these moments because there will come a time where the zoo doesn’t interest Greyson any longer. So, I’m soaking up as much of these moments as I can!
I hope you all had an amazing weekend! What all did you get into? Let’s share in the comments!
