It surely has been a busy month this January and somehow I failed to publish this post at the beginning – but I blame mom brain and starting back to work! Nonetheless, we’re sitting on the cusp of February and it has me thinking about all the different ways I tried to soak this new year in and here’s what I got:
One | simplifying my routines
Simplify has become the word that has inspired my year this year and one way I am doing just that is looking for ways to make my mornings easier and stress free. Now that I’m back to work it means I’m waking up and needing to head out the door within 45 minutes. Luckily my day begins before Greyson even wakes up (thanks to an amazing husband who now takes over morning routine duty) so all I have to worry about is prepping everything I need the night before.
Here are a few ways I manage to get out of the door on time each morning:
- Outfit prep on Sunday nights. I have a door hangar especially for my work outfits that I fully piece together from pants to accessories. This way I am able to wake up and I don’t have to think about what to wear!
- Breakfast & lunch prep each night. Every night when I get home I clean out my lunch box and begin prepping my meals for the following day. My coffee is set on delay so it’s hot first thing when I wake up, my lunch box is ready to go, and I opt for açaí smoothies for breakfast which are easy to blend and be eaten on my commute into work.
- Alarms on my phone. Aside from my wake-up alarm I have alarms for when I need to be OUT. THE. DOOR. Knowing my commute is an hour, and sometimes I can run into traffic that can potentially can make me late, I have an alarm that signals when I absolutely need to get on the road.
Two | going back to work
I knew that January marked not only a huge moment for me as a mom, but as Kelly as well. January would be the beginning of my first jump back into work part-time as an assistant teacher at my beloved school. This meant that not only would I return to what was my routine for a year prior to Greyson’s arrival, but that he would be beginning daycare for the very first time. AKA being away from mommy for the very first time. Luckily though, he’s done an amazing job transitioning to daycare, which in turn has made my very own transition so much better!
What helped you if/when you transitioned to work and either hiring a babysitter/nanny or placing your child in daycare?
Three | new recipes!
This month was also all about trying new recipes to make our workweek meals a little more exciting and easy to make. I like to stick to a vegan/vegetarian menu throughout the week and allow my weekends to be my cheat days. Every recipe I’ve attempted thus far have been serious hits and makes plenty for meal prepping lunches throughout the week! Here are a few of my favorite recipes and food bloggers this month:
Four | a simplified closet
- Stitch Fix
When I was pregnant I had donated and ditched hundreds of dollars worth of work clothes from when I taught. Knowing my body would never be the same, I figured I’d pass them along to someone who could get more use out of them vs me who had planned to take time off to be home with Greyson. This month, and now that I’m back to work, it’s time to add work casual pieces to my closet and I turned to none other than my lovely stylist, Whitney, from Stitch Fix (referral link).
This was my first fix of the new year and also requesting for the first time pieces to begin crafting my capsule work wardrobe. I had asked for replacements of my beloved vests (I love mine from over the years but alas I need bigger sizes!) and blouses that have a peplum style and could be easily layered. I enjoyed what Whitney picked out for me and ended up keeping a duster cardigan, the herringbone vest, and peplum blouse she sent my way!
I just received my shipping notification for my next fix and I’m excited to see what else she found for me! Stay tuned!
Another way I love simplifying my closet this year is by using another subscription service, this time it’s Rocksbox! I’ve never really been into jewelry or accessorizing beyond the basics, so it didn’t make sense to me to buy a lot of fashion jewelry when I knew I’d be returning to work. Instead, I use Rocksbox whose stylists hand-pick three pieces from my wishlist and I get to keep them for as long as I want! This way I cut down on the clutter, my jewelry always stays fresh and on-trend, and I simply return them when I’m done to receive three more pieces! So far I’ve worn every piece that’s been sent to me all throughout the week and have received multiple compliments!Try Rocksbox for yourself absolutely FREE when you use my referral code: KELLYDBFF26
I hope each of you found the time to truly enjoy January and I look forward to hearing about how you’ll slow down and enjoy February! Speaking of, how do you plan to enjoy February?
