Happy December everyone!
Yeah, it’s December and I can’t begin to believe we’re winding down 2017 already. But, I suppose I say that about every year. Somehow when you become a parent life seems to be on warp speed, but through it all I’m so thankful for the many blessings we’ve experienced this year.
So, how do I plan to enjoy December? Well, this month will keep us busy for sure. Every year our Christmas present from my husband’s family is a flight to Texas to spend the holidays with them. We always look forward to this time because we don’t get to see much of family during the year besides phone calls and FaceTime. Plus, we were supposed to meet up with them while we were in Europe but with my husband being called home early for work we never got to see them – although they did seem to have an amazing time themselves all over Europe!
Aside from holiday travels I do have a few ways in which I plan to slow down and enjoy this month of December…
One | Little Fox Lettering Co goes to the marketplace!
This month my church had a women’s event that volunteered for as well as shared my lettering business, Little Fox Lettering Co. Part of this event attendees can browse and purchase goods at a marketplace that hosts an assortment of local small businesses and other mom-trepreneurs like myself. I’ll finally got a chance to jump out from behind the screen and meet my customers and share what I love!
Two | Intentional God Time
One spiritual goal that I’ve had – and have been telling God for a while now – has been to be more intention with my time with Him. I have found all kinds of ways to distract myself and doing the things I want to do, but with no real productivity. I believe God has blessed me and my family in countless ways, but I never really reflect and give thanks back to Him.
So, this year I am excited to start The Daily Grace Co’s FREE month-long advent devotional. All of her studies are beautifully created and centered on learning more about God and allowing the reader to really dig into Scripture. I am also looking forward to be doing this alongside my husband as well, which will make it even more meaningful. I love the holiday season and placing God and Jesus into the center of it all is truly what Christmas is all about.
Three | Putting Health 1st (Even Through the Holidays)
Another way I want to live out an intentional life this December is staying true to my health goals. I know I’ve said, written, bitched, and complained about my weight it seems like ever since Greyson came home. It’s a real struggle. But, I’m not going to allow that inner Negative Nancy get the better of me. So, even though I did indulge during Thanksgiving…I’m going to try and maintain my health goals through Christmas. In Texas. Probably the hardest place to be ‘healthy.’
Some ways that I plan to do this are:
- water, water, water: my plan is to keep up my water intake so it curbs the hunger pangs and keeps the bloats away!
- drink more tea: I’ve found that tea has been great for keeping my metabolism up and ready for the day.
- 310 Shake…maybe?: I’ve been considering a few meal replacement shakes or smoothies to help me lose some of this weight. Has anyone had any experience with it? What are your thoughts?
- enjoy a cheat meal…not cheat day: One reminder I’ve read somewhere is that it’s okay to indulge in a cheat meal once a week, but to not confuse it with a cheat day. During the holidays I’m going to try and keep this goal at the forefront of my mind.
- utilize my Fitbit once more! I dug out my first generation Fitbit and am thankful it still works! I love the slight motivation to keep moving – but soon I’ll have to upgrade it 😉
Four | Christmas Movie Date Nights
My husband and I typically go all out with the holidays and at Christmas we love watching our favorite movies – typically including Christmas Vacation and, of course, Home Alone. Last year I planned a whole month worth of themed activities and even a movie/drink pairing with our favorite movies, but this year we’re doing things a little more relaxed and low key. Sometimes just staying in and enjoying each other is all that’s needed.
Julie from the blog A Hopeful Hood just shared her Christmas date nights and I love her movie selections and how she spends the holidays with her little family! So be sure to check her blog out for more inspiration on how to spend quality time with each other this season.
Five | The Gift of Giving
Lastly, the intentionality behind this year for me as it comes to a culminating close this month is sharing the gift of giving. Christmastime always seems to bring about the feelings of giving back to others whether it be in the form of actual gifts or something as simple as ones time. Acts of service is something that I want to instill and raise Greyson with and teach him that the gifts of giving transcends the holidays – that the goal should be an intentional aspect of our every day life.
Some of the ways I want to begin giving are:
- volunteering more
- simple acts of kindness to friends and strangers alike
- participation in acts of service at church (i.e. collecting items for the homeless)
- regular phone calls to family
- using income to give back
- …just keep loving on others despite the love I may or may not receive back
I hope each any every one of you finds time this month to truly enjoy these next few weeks that remain of 2017. I’m not quite sure if I’m prepared to even begin thinking about the new year, but alas it is upon us nonetheless. December should be enjoyed to the fullest and I pray blessings upon you and your families!
Any fun Christmas traditions or memories? How do you plan to soak up all of December?
