Birchbox Review + Giveaway

Last night’s concert was ah-mazing! My husband is a fan of Foster the People and he told me that he had looked into their tour to see when they would be playing near us- being DC at the time. After we had moved out here to CA he looked again and found that they were playing in Santa Barbara and alas tickets were purchased and we were on our way.
I have to say that I wasn’t a huge fan of the band prior to going but I cannot tell you how many Real Housewives episodes and reunions the hubs has sat through over the years and it’s not like he has to twist my arm to get me to a live show either. I was happy to go and was even happier to spend this time doing something my husband wanted to do.
Overall the show was amazing and the live performances of all the bands where spectacular. One band in particular I have to share with you (maybe I’m the one under the rock here) and they are called Sylvan Esso. It’s a two person set up and the beats mixed with her voice is unreal. Please check them out if you’re looking for some new awesome tunes for your playlists.

Now on to November’s Birchbox!

Contents:
amika: Dry Shampoo | Camille Beckman: Hand Lotion | derma e: Brightening Cleanser
Laura Mercier: Creme Eye Pencil in Violet | theBalm Cosmetics: Cindy-Lou Manizer
Bonus: Tinted Moisterizer & Firecracker ChocoPods
amika Dry Shampoo:
I’m loving everything about this product. I have tried TreSemmes Dry Shampoo but found that the talc moreso covered up the oil in my hair versus actually absorbing it, which leaves my hair feeling heavy.
Amika’s dry shampoo on the other hand feels weightless on your hair and the application is so light. The scent is also very fruitful, which is nice in a product like this. You actually feel like you are putting a product in your hair that is organic and actually revitalizes your hair for those of us who need a little wake-me-up the next morning.
Camille Beckman: Platinume Gold Imperial Repair Hand Therapy
Another staple that should be in anyones beauty regime is the proper moisturizer and hand lotion. Camille Beckman’s repair hand lotion goes on so silky soft and your skin just absorbs the lotion and it doesn’t leave your hands feeling oily or needing to wipe them down before you head out the door. The lemongrass-grapefruit is a lovely scent for this lotion, again, feeling very organic. When Birchbox describes that it is “formulated to soothe, soften, and relieve dry hands” they hit it exactly on the mark.
derma e Brightening Cleanser:
Along with a good moisturizer is investing in a good cleanser, especially if you are religious about your makeup everyday. It is so easy to just wipe off your makeup (I personally LOVE my Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes) and go to bed, however, in the longterm your skin could suffer. Cleansing your skin is equally as important as removing your makeup each night.
This brightening cleanser is great for making your face feel refreshed and even provides you with a more even-looking skin complexion. It is safe to use both in the morning and at night – AND it’s all natural so you can feel good about what products you use on your skin.
Laura Mercier Longwear Creme Eye Pencil in Violet:
Many of my previous Birchboxes have provided me with various eye liners, so when I received this one I did roll my eyes and think: of course I got more eye liner! But I’m glad I got this one to try simply because it’s in a shade I wouldn’t normally go and purchase for myself. Violet. Kinda scary especially for a girl who wears natural-looking makeup. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the violet applies darker but gives your eye a subtle pop of color that is perfectly paired with any fall outfit. The creme base allows for the liner to be applied with ease and it’s formulated to give you 12 hours of wear.

Bonus: Tinted Moisturizer:
It was nice of Birchbox to provide a fun bonus sample in this months box. The only issue for me is that my skin is fickle about the cremes and other liquid based makeup products I use. No matter how much water I drank or kept a watchful eye on what I ate, my skin would have red spots and I would breakout all the time. A few years ago I switched to 100% Bare Minerals since their powder-based makeup was a perfect fit for my skin and those problems cleared right up.

This tinted moisturizer would be perfect for those looking for a creme-based moisturizer that gives a little bronze to your overall skin tone without it coming off overpowering or fake (we all are familiar with that line where your face just doesn’t match the rest of you).

The Balm Cosmetics Cindy-Lou Manizer:
For the inner Kim Kardashian in all of us (admit it, the girl is beautiful [but she’s fortunate enough to have a team make her look like that]….seriously) this product is great for *contouring your features or just adding some shimmer to your overall look. It can even be used as a light eyeshadow! I love products that can have multiple uses! And best of all, no matter how you use it you achieve a lovely glow that others are bound to notice.

That’s my November box! I look forward to checking out everyone else’s box and read about what goodies they received this month.
