I was provided these toys in exchange for an honest review. As always, 100% of my opinions are my own.
Ever since Greyson could crawl he’s been so eager to learn and play with his surroundings. From a curiosity of how things work to observing and having a fascination with animals, people, and cars. He’s become such a bright and social boy who isn’t shy in saying ‘hello’ or ‘bye bye’ to anyone who will engage with him. As he continues to grow and change, he is in need of toys that will grow with him as well as stimulate his development.
Minimalism & Meaningful Play
Living minimally has really helped my husband and I purge the unnecessary and distracting items from our lives. Every few months we go through our home to see what things we can either sell, donate, or trash (read more about our Minimalist Challenge here). It was such a relief to discard these things so that the only items left in our home were things that brought us joy or served a purpose. As it relates to Greyson on the other hand, we’ve made a conscious effort to make sure that we provide him with experiences moreso than and investment in things – which brings me to a discussion about his toys.
Especially as we begin the process of packing for our move, this past week I took it upon myself to go through his box of toys and donate what he doesn’t use or play with anymore. I’ve learned that with having a child it’s so easy to accumulate so many things, especially toys, and with that it’s increasingly important from time to time to rid our home of old and immature toys. Clearing out these unused things allow for more room for more meaningful toys and games for him to play with.
One of my favorite and newest line of toddler toys for Greyson is Fat Brain Toys, a husband and wife company based in Nebraska who designs and creates quality made, multi-use toys. The Baby Cubby has an assortment of their toys available both on their online and in-store toy boutiques. Their collection aims to ‘entertain and educate’ and I am so excited to share with you a couple of their toys!
The SpinAgain Stacking Toy
Stacking toys are very popular amongst young children and understandably so. Fat Brain Toys have designed the SpinAgain toy that spins, which excites Greyson every time! He’s working on his fine motor skills as well as his hand-eye coordination by placing each disk on the spinner. It’s fun to see the challenge it poses and observing him work through his frustrations.
Greyson loves his stacking rings but as an ever busy toddler he becomes bored fairly quickly with them. These Tobbles Neo gives a fun and new take on the traditional stacking rings we’re all used to, but in a weighted sphere shape and bright colors. Each sphere is easy to grip and does a lot of fun things for a toddler like wobble, stack, roll, balance, and spin. Each one fits into another and it challenges Greyson to stack them, although they tilt, and keep them from toppling over. However, once he successfully stacks them he loves knocking them down! It’s a unique toy and I love just how entertained he is!
For a child who loves books, I am always eager to add new stories to his ever growing home library. Now that he’s learning sounds, words, and meaning to the things around him, it’s important for me to foster this newfound sense of language. Baby Cubby also offers a wonderful collection of all kinds of books and the one that caught my eye was ABC Menagerie. It’s not your typical ABC book in that each page is filled with whimsical characters and illustrations for each letter and sound. I love reading this story over and over to him!
