You’ve probably seen a lot on my social media about this lady friend of mine lately. Chelsea is a phenomenal hair stylist at a local salon here in Ventura called Matiz and I met her over two years ago when we first moved here from D.C. The one thing any girl does when moving to a new town is locate the nearest Starbucks and find a hair stylist. I remember meeting her for the first time and when I say there is a golden light that radiates from her I’m not exaggerating at the least. I can honestly say that I don’t know someone as kind, sweet, and equally hilarious as Chelsea. It’s been such an honor getting to know more about her over these last two years and I can say that she’s more than my stylist, but a friend.

The C Word

When my husband returned from his own haircut appointment with her just a number of weeks ago he had mentioned that she was getting a procedure done. When I asked what kind of procedure he mentioned that her doctor had found tumors on one of her ovaries and that she was getting it biopsied. My initial thought was, oh, that sucks! I’ve had a pap-smear come back abnormal and needed a biopsy done on my cervix to screen for cancer and with this experience I thought that her case was somewhat normal and routine. That she would be healthy and back to work no problem – although those procedures are very uncomfortable. My husband, myself, and a friend, who also is one of her clients, were even planning a little Get Well Soon gift for her as she made her return to work.

Unfortunately that wouldn’t be the case.

All of Chelsea’s clients were being handed over to other stylists, my husband being one of them. After he returned from his appointment last week and had a chance to check-in with those who may have word on her condition, he returned with a saddened heart. It was found that Chelsea was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) and will be beginning chemo as well as other treatments such as blood and marrow transfusions. I am grateful that there are treatments available for her and others who suffer from this type of cancer.

Find more information related to blood, marrow, or organ donation.

Anyone who has visited an ER knows that medical bills can skyrocket, even for those who have health insurance. Cancer treatment is rigorous, time-consuming, and often a painful and debilitating course of action for anyone and it comes with a price-tag. My goal in this, knowing there’s not much one can do in this situation, is to be as active as I can for Chelsea and be her voice as she undergoes her treatment and hopeful recovery.

Supporting Chelsea

I only ask that if you are so inclined, please consider visiting her Go Fund Me page where you can learn more about her and make a small donation that will go directly to paying her medical and living costs while she is out of work. She is devout in her faith, so at the very least please lift her and her husband up to God in this time of need. Pray over her treatment, her ability to receive donations both monetary and blood/marrow, and her cancer team that will be treating her. You can even share this post or any one of my social media to get the word out about this cause.

Again, it’s unlike me to ask for money as I know it’s very forward to do so – especially to strangers. However, I have this feeling that although I may not be able to take her cancer away there are other ways I can impact her and her family in a positive way. And if blogging and sharing her story makes even just the slightest difference I’m okay with that.

Thank you for allowing me to do just that and if anyone has any words of encouragement that I can share with her please comment below or visit her GoFundMe page today.

Styling With Stitch Fix | December

Styling With Stitch Fix | December

Referral links are used within this post, but all opinions are 100% my own.

My girl Whitney has done it again this month and I couldn’t be more excited to share with all of you the pieces I received in my December fix! This is the first time in a very long time that I actually purchased all 5 items, but it was also a very easy choice to make. This month I knew I would be doing a little traveling for Christmas with my little family and the temperatures are beginning to drop here in Ventura, so I was in need for some sweaters and an update to my outerwear selection that I could wear all season long and are easy to pack.

When it comes to winter-wear for me it needs to be lightweight considering our winter is a brisk 65-70 degrees with a chance of wind. Living by the water causes things to be extra chilly these next couple months. I am always looking for layerable pieces too since temperatures can change throughout the day and depending where we are. Whitney heard my call loud and clear and shipped me some pretty amazing pieces that were flattering, in beautiful winter colors, and most importantly, lightweight and practical for my beach living lifestyle.

Here’s what was in my 13th fix!

Market & Spruce Jayda Pullover Sweater – KEEP

Burgundy is the color of the season and I can understand why. It’s a beautiful shade so when I saw this Market & Spruce pullover sweater I couldn’t help but get excited. The material is soft and I love the eyelet detailing that runs along the trim. Another great feature of this sweater are the slits along the sides, which perfectly accentuates my hips and allows for the perfect fit. A lot of the items she sent me has these slits and I am so thankful because I am able to enjoy a top that’s fitted up top, modest in the bust, and hides my postpartum tummy.

Market & Spruce Kres Woven Detail Knit Top – KEEP WITH A TWIST

I really wanted to like this top because it fits well, but I just wasn’t feeling the cutout in the back. It’s another super soft piece and I really like the trim, but overall I wasn’t sure if I loved it enough to keep it.

Here’s the twist…

This is a perfect example of how the Buy 5 Discount really worked in my favor on those undecided items. Because I already am purchasing 4 out of the 5 pieces, I had to think about whether or not keeping this top gave me the most value upon checkout. I earn a Buy 5 Discount of 25% off on top of any credits and my styling fee, so by returning it I would lose on that deal and end up paying more than if I decided to keep it. Instead of returning it, I am going to simply **exchange it for a medium so that it’s a bit more fitted considering the stretchy material.

**Stitch Fix now offers items to be exchanged for other sizes! You simply purchase the item and return it in the prepaid shipping envelope (along with any other returned items) and you’ll get a notification when your exchanged size hops in the mail. So much more convenient now that I don’t have to send items back I loved just to wait and see if the new size came in my next fix.

Fate Lydiah Striped V-Neck Pullover – KEEP

How many striped shirts can one girl own? Considering over the last few months I’ve narrowed my closet down to live more minimally, I have found room to add a couple of new pieces. Everyone who knows me knows stripes are one of my favorite patterns and I love that this lightweight sweater has a few different styles going on. The solid cuffs really break up the overall stripey pattern and I really love the look of the oversized shoulders that lead into a draped midsection. The slits on the hips make another appearance and I am thankful because it makes this sweater look so flattering while hiding my problem areas.

P.S. the stripes and cuffs are actually a dark navy blue, not black. 😉

Honey Punch Rivington Textured Open Cardigan – KEEP

Open cardigans are my thing since they’re so cozy and give a new spin on an old favorite. I was surprised to see this knitted cardigan by Honey Punch in my fix, but in a great way. I immediately fell in love with the champagne-almost-rose color, which separates itself from everything else in my closet. It’s so cozy and the material is super soft and I know I’ll be wearing it a lot this season.

I love the little hood that’s attached on the back!

So, what is so great about Stitch Fix?

Stitch Fix first began as a skeptical leap of style faith. I wasn’t quite sure that some stylist over the internet could really find 5 pieces that would not only fit me, but be looks I’d actually want to wear. For a $20 styling fee I received my first fix and was initially so impressed with how my stylist heard exactly what I was looking for and delivered on it. I still wear a number of those first purchases today (and that was over 2 years ago) and enjoy adding new and fun pieces along the way.

I’ve journeyed with Stitch Fix through the ups and downs of my weight and even through my pregnancy with their maternity styles. Since it’s been a couple of months since my last fix, I was so excited to see that they offer shoes now in addition to a new mens line. This just proves to me that Stitch Fix has a finger on the latest trends, but also keeps the needs of their customers in mind. I can only imaging how they’ll grow and expand into the future!

 What about those referral links?

Because I created a free style profile I now have the ability to share my love of Stitch Fix with others. A referral simply allows me to earn a credit of $25, which essentially covers my styling fee for the next time I schedule a fix. Once you create a style profile you are given a special referral link and begin earning your own credits. Why not get a credit for something you use anyways? I am so appreciative to those who use my link because it helps me as a SAHM enjoy the little things like feeling good in a nice pair of jeans. So, thank you.

Which items in this fix are you loving the most? What styles do you gravitate towards?

Linking up with Maria.

New Years Style Inspirations | Rent The Runway

Give me an excuse to dress up and I’m ready to go. I love fun gatherings whether it be a casual event or a holiday party because it gives me a chance to live out my version of a SAHM-Cinderella for one evening. I can actually do my hair, apply a little makeup, and wear something that makes me feel human like a woman again. However, I hate the shopping part of finding that perfect dress because I always spend more on something that I’ll only wear once and never be able to fit into again. Then there’s the ill-lighted fitting rooms, the shame I put on myself watching the other girls (without a baby) try on their 00 sized dresses, and not to mention, the selection of dresses for my postpartum body is slim pickin’. So what’s a girl to do so she can enjoy her one evening out without the baby?

Finally women have taken a hint from the men and created a lovely service where you can find a massive selection of fashionable and high-end quality dresses that you can…wait for it…rent. Yes, rent! Renting a dress takes out the problems I’ve encountered in the past because it’s an affordable alternative to buying a dress for the various events we’re invited to throughout the year. By renting I’m able to enjoy multiple styles and simply return them when I’m done that way I’m not stuck with the same dress.

With New Years Eve coming up in just a couple weeks here are my favorite styles from Rent The Runway that will be sure to be a conversation piece no matter how you choose to spend your evening.

New Years Style Inspirations | Rent The Runway

Black Mosaic Lace Ball Dress

I’m kind of in love with this dress because of it’s elegance with the lace detailing, but edginess with the appearance of layers. The v-neckline makes it a touch sexy and I love the fit-and-flare style, which I find to be most flattering for most body types – including my own.

Green Golden Flower Dress

Emerald is another color I have recently been in love with and this dress is a beautiful alternative to the Golden Flower Dress (see below). The sequins are perfect for NYE and the cut is modest with a little fun with the knee length. And don’t worry about the sequins being itchy or irritating. When I rented a similar dress for my bachelorette party it has an inner liner that keeps your skin safe from those bothersome (but super cute) sequins.

Carlene Dress

This dress screams art-deco Great Gatsby-ness and I am in love with it. It would be perfect for a themed NYE party or a fun, and different, take on the traditional NYE look.

Blue Lace Shutter Sheath

Another lace option (sense a trend here?) but this time in a deep blue with a metallic threading that adds a beautiful touch. I’m also in love with the draping on the sleeves

Golden Flower Dress

If green isn’t your thing and you want to be more literal with your NYE dress then this Golden Flower dress by Badgley Mischka one is perfect! It’s such a beautiful color and nothing says counting down the ball like golden sequins!

Such An Illusion Gown

Gowns are so elegant and I am always looking for a reason to wear one. Perhaps it’s the Disney princess generation in me, but RTR has a variety of beautiful ones to choose from. My newest favorite trend right now are illusion dresses – meaning there’s some kind of hidden overlay detail. The cap sleeves and lace crew neckline sets this dress out from the others. Not to mention, I find the intricate threading of the green and gold on the lace to be extra beautiful!

Speaking of gowns I cannot speak higher of the Badgley Mischka dresses I’ve rented for my friend and sister’s wedding. These particular gowns are beautiful and are a variation of each other so I knew they would fit perfectly. For a winter wedding I opted for this green Flora Chiffon Gown and I am happy I did considering I had my eye on a different red dress, but red seemed to be the color of the evening! Rent The Runway was also a common theme amongst my friends (see photo) and they each looked beautiful in their dresses!

For my sister’s fall wedding in New Hampshire, and her matron of honor, I rented this Ruby Red Gala Gown also by Badgley Mischka and needless to say I received many compliments throughout the night. It was modest, but attention getting, and the red was a beautiful color for fall.

How It Works

So you’re interested in trying out Rent The Runway for the first time but want to know more about how it works? Awesome! It’s so easy and there are many benefits that are offered – such as 20% off your first order!

 1. First, begin by browsing their almost-endless selection of styles for any occasion. They have since expanded from dresses to now offer everyday clothing and accessories! Choose from top designers and browse either online or, if you’re lucky to live near one of their boutiques, shop in-store!
 2. You receive one FREE backup size with each order! This option is a life saver because not all dresses fit the same and when you need that dress in a particular timeframe having a backup is key. Oh! And I love browsing through the customer review photos because it gives me a real-life perspective on how the dress fits. Models are great, but seeing the dress I’m interested on real women really helps me determine if it’s the perfect fit for me.
 3. You can choose when your order arrives and for how long you’d like to rent it for. You have the option of 4 or 8 rental days and returns are FREE! They handle the dry cleaning upon return so you’re guaranteed a cleaned dress from beginning to end.

Rent The Runway now offers an Unlimited service which is $139 a month and is the perfect option for those who need multiple looks monthly. This option is perfect for each #ladyboss, fashionista, or someone who just loves changing up their wardrobe without the commitment. You receive 3 pieces of your choice with no rental fee and FREE shipping, an unlimited rental period (keep them for as long as you’d like!), and when you’re done send back one or all of your pieces and swap them out for new pieces. RTR handles the dry cleaning, like always, and you can cancel this service easily at any time.

So, what are you planning for NYE? What dress styles do you love most for this holiday season?

Greyson James: 9 Month Update

Greyson James: 9 Month Update

What a week it’s been in the Daniel household! I not only had a husband who succumbed to allergies all weekend, but have a teething baby on top of his runny nose – becoming more like a minor sinus infection. Boogies everywhere! Poor guy barely gets any sleep due to phlegm and not being able to breathe. Our Nose Frieda has been a Godsend although he barely lets us get in there anymore since we’ve been using all weekend. I just pray that his pain subsides and these boogies begin to pass.

With all the sickies at home it made blogging a touch challenging, but here is Greyson’s 9 month update! 9 months, guys. That means it’s only three short months until he’s one! But, I’m holding onto my little baby while I can – this past month was full of all kinds of new milestones and he’s been hard to contain with all this crawling going on!

Date: December 10, 2016
Weight: 22 lbs (eek!)

Celebrated: seeing Santa for the first time! I was very curious about him and even managed to not shed one tear! I was able to get my photo taken even with Murphy, too.

Greyson James: 9 Month Update

Teeth: I still have eight teeth (4 up top and bottom), but I’m beginning to teethe in the back now which has me fussy with a bout of diarrhea and a runny nose. Mommy and Daddy brush my new teeth now with my very own toothbrush and fluoride-free toothpaste! I think it’s so funny when they brush- I also love playing in the bathroom mirrors.

Enjoys: I really enjoy learning new things on my own, even though I can sometimes get frustrated if I don’t succeed right away. Toys that have latches or flaps are my favorite as well as my new table that I can climb up to. Climbing is my new favorite thing to do, too, and I even try to move from one surface to another like the coffee table to the sofa! I’ll be walking in no time I’m sure of it. I also like to take toys and purposefully drop them to watch someone pick it back up. I’ll do this over and over again!

Dislikes: the changing table! I don’t like it when Mommy lays me down on it to change my diaper or clothes. She keeps me from sitting up or twisting around. I also hate that boogie sucker Mommy and Daddy use…(even though it helps him breathe tremendously!).

Milestones: Thankfully separation anxiety, which is supposed to peak at this age, hasn’t really bothered me. I am pretty friendly with everyone (especially the ladies), but if I could choose I’d still pick Mommy or Daddy over a stranger. I am a busy-body now too as I’ve learned to officially crawl on my hands and knees – I’m booking it all over the place! I love standing up on furniture and have even taken a couple steps on my own!

Learning: what “no” means and actually following it as I’m still learning the boundaries that Mommy sets.

Sad to not have been able to catch any smiley photos of him this time around, but this poor guy hasn’t been feeling 100%. He’s a trooper, though, and I can’t say no to all the extra snuggles lately.

I was able to finish the keepsake ornament this weekend too! Bought some acrylic paints from Target and attempted to handletter my best “first Christmas.” I love how it turned out and making this ornament will help me keep Greyson tiny forever 🙂
